Some time ago we had a chance to compare an Alpen Kodiak model 2065 riflescope to one of the higher-end Leupold VX-III models. We found no discernible difference in sharpness, or field flatness, or anything else that would make us want to pay the price difference. We didn't have an Apex scope available to compare, but the Apex series has better optics than the Kodiaks, so we'd expect the Apex to win a side-by-side comparison with the VX-III, at a considerably lower price. The VX-III had better color rendition than the Kodiak, which indicates the lens coatings are better -- but for a street price difference of about $700, we figure it better do something better.

Eyepiece Focus Adjustment
All Alpen rifle and shotgun scopes have eyepiece focus adjustments to allow sharp, clear viewing for each user's individual vision. The eyepieces are preset to 20/20 vision at the factory. However, since individual eyesight may vary, focusing using the eyepiece focus ring assures crisp, sharp images regardless of eyesight.

Alpen AccuPlex™ tapered reticles found on all Apex riflescopes permit fast target acquisition in the dimmest light, giving shooters greater accuracy.
