AquaRain Gravity Water Filters

Made in USA!USA Flag

AquaRain Gravity Water Filters will provide clean and safe water you can trust, without boiling, potentially dangerous chemicals, or reliance on a power source. The rugged stainless steel housing holds state-of-the-art, high quality filter elements offering the very latest in advanced ceramic technology.

Pore size of the ceramic elements is 0.3 micron absolute -- the smallest of any gravity filter, so AquaRain catches stuff the others let through. Fairey Ceramics (Doulton, British Berkefeld, Berkey) Super Sterasyl elements are 0.9 micron absolute, 0.5 micron average; Katadyn doesn't publish an absolute rating, but says 0.2 micron average, so their absolute rating should be around 0.4 micron. Actually they'll all catch the stuff that matters, but if you want the best, it's AquaRain.

The ceramic removes all particulates, bacteria, giardia, cryptosporidium, protozoa, etc. Silvered carbon core adsorbs pesticides, MTBE, organic chemicals, chlorine, tastes and odors.

AquaRain uses activated carbon made from coconut shells. The source of the activated carbon makes a big difference in its effectiveness on various substances, and coconut shell carbon has proven extremely effective at removing MTBE, as well as other dangerous substances. No post filters or other special measures are necessary, just the standard AquaRain elements. Scientific research backing this up can be easily found on the web; a good starting place is Water Conditioning & Purification Magazine's report titled, "Carbon: Optimized Activated Carbons for MTBE Removal in POU/POE Systems - Coconut vs. Coal". Other filters that require post filters to remove MTBE are much more expensive to start with, and the post filters only add more unnecessary expense.

A note about silver in ceramic filter elements: Most other manufacturers impregnate their ceramic with silver to eliminate bacteria growth within the ceramic (it doesn't serve any filtering function). AquaRain doesn't do this because the smallest bacteria are 0.4 micron, and the biggest holes in AquaRain elements are 0.3 micron, so it's simply not possible for any bacteria to enter or grow through the elements. So there's no need for the ceramic to be silver impregnated. As of this writing (7/13) we've had one AquaRain element in service continuously for over 8 years, with no sign of any bacterial grow-through.

Element life, per single element: ceramic, about 2,500 - 10,000 gallons; carbon, about 3,000 - 5,000 gallons. If the carbon wears out before the ceramic, replace the elements if you need carbon; or, if you don't need carbon, keep using them as long as the ceramic is good.
